UNCORKING THE FOUNTAIN OF YOUTH AT LOS CABOS’ SOMMA WINE SPA

MEXICO CITY, Mexico March, 2008 – A first for Mexico and much of Latin America, the SOMMA WineSpa at the Fiesta Americana Grand Los Cabos capitalizes on its ideal location in the heart of Baja California’s up-and-coming wine country.  Delighting guests with its avant-garde take on the common grape, the SOMMA WineSpa carefully selects only the best grapes from the country’s fruitful Guadalupe Valley.  Straight from the vine, the chosen few serve as key ingredients in the spa’s anti-aging wine treatments, also known as vinotherapy.

SOMMA has infused the natural healing power of wine and grape byproducts into virtually every spa experience, from massages, facials and mud wraps to exfoliating scrubs, bubble baths and hydrotherapy.  Treatments at SOMMA range from the classic deep tissue massage, which incorporates wine oil to ease tension and general muscle aches, to the Cabernet Sauvignon grape wrap, a deep purple body wrap that restores skin’s texture and firmness while releasing the rich, creamy aroma of a fine Cabernet.

Long considered to be a source of health and longevity, wine has been recently proven to strengthen the cardiovascular system, a major component in overall health and well-being.  A recent study published in Nutrition Journal reported that subjects who consumed red wine nightly showed improved cholesterol levels and reduced oxidative stress on blood vessels as well as a significant increase in antioxidants, ranging on average from 7 to 16 percent.  Most importantly, after only two weeks of study, researchers discovered that the participants’ levels of free radicals were, on average, cut in half.

Recognizing the powerful potential of wine not only on the body but also within it, the SOMMA WineSpa has introduced a new fine dining experience to further complement its luxurious treatments and breathtaking, natural setting.  To begin, guests are encouraged to slip off their sandals at the shoe check-in before taking part in the traditional wine making process.  As guests dip their feet into cool tubs of grapes, they use their toes to extract rich phenols from grape skin and seeds, which contain both anti-oxidant and exfoliate properties.

Comfortably settled in oversized lounge chairs underneath the tranquil desert sky, the newly recruited winemakers receive a relaxing reflexology massage while sampling award-winning, regional wines paired with hand-selected canapésNext, guests indulge in a haute, three-course menu of Asian and Mexican cuisine influenced by the Pacific Rim, illuminated by delicate, fragrant candles and underscored by the light musical accompaniment of a strolling tenor.  Fully capturing the beauty and natural splendor of the site, a high-powered telescope allows guests to conclude their magical evening by sipping champagne while gazing into a panoramic, starlit sky.

SOMMA WineSpa’s “Barefoot Dining Experience” includes a welcome martini, wine tasting, three canapés, a reflexology massage, a three-course dinner, regional wines, an international open bar, use of a GPS-guided telescope and a half bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne at US$600 per couple (taxes and gratuities included). Reservations are recommended, as the experience is limited to just four tables per night.

The SOMMA WineSpa is open for resort guest admission at US$165 per day.  Individual spa treatments are priced separately.  Hydrotherapy, gym facilities and exercise classes are included for guests aged 16 and older.
